So my high school is getting portable classrooms due the fact that there are new students crowding up the century-old building (ok it's not century-old but whatever) so there isn't any room. I've had class in portables many times and I have to say, they aren't really that bad. Except in the winter, of course.
I was in ESL in grade 5 and that was in a portable. It was a small class of about 9-10 people. Back then the school only had 2 portables. When I visited again in 2008 they had 9 of them. I remember in grade 5 every class planted a tree. The tree of my class was located about a few metres from the parking lot. Yes, that WAS in past tense. Now, it has been replaced with an ugly brown piece of portable right on top of where the tree had been. God knows what happened to that poor tree we planted years ago. I blame all the new kiddies who goes to that school, ugh.
Grade 7 was nice, apart from the entire school (except for the teachers) wore disgusting uniforms. There were two portables behind the school but I once heard from a supervising teacher that they were never used. We used to sit at the wooden stairs and stare blankly out into the field, about 300 metres away from where a pedophile used to lurk around in the afternoon. I'm serious, we once received newsletters at the school about "bewares and precautions" for this strange man. It was so unbelievable that it became funny.
Grade 8 @ SAM. Now that I don't have to wear that crappy uniform all day I'd feel much better. My English class is still in a portable though. I don't have much to complain about, it was a great class. It's probably the only year when I actually enjoyed English class. My English mark has been declining ever since then.
I wonder who will be using those 4 portables at ACI this year? Not the seniors for sure. It's not like we're the ones overpopulating the school.
